    S14 flywheel on M30`s

sorry about the double thread but the other has been weared out and this one is specific

Hi, I came across a free :D almost new s14 jb flywheel used on an sports evo for only months, but:

    S14`s FW: weight: 8lbs... clutch: 228mm
    M30`s FW: weight: 11lbs clutch: 240mm
    M20`s: ........................ clutch: 228mm

Knowing you can use the M10`s flywheel you should be able to use the s14`s too (not sure) as also the gearbox. So my questions are

1._ Does the S14`s flywheel fit the M30 with no problems, specially STARTER related ones!!!!!!! :hitler:
2._ Is 8lbs to light for the M30? (going turbo 8psi after the FW job)
3._ Can I use the M20`s double mass FW clutch setup on the s14`s flywheel being both 228mm?

If it all works ill post videos of the car without turbo so you can see the revs response and idle issues if any. may be a good option and the m3`s FW is cheaper by almost $100.
    Thanks soooooooo Much!! :-D

I wouldn't use the clutch if it doesnt have springs. Most dual mass flywheel clutches dont have springs in them because the springs are in the flywheel instead. Thats about all i got for ya
    First: 1984 318i
    Second: 1987 325
    Third: 1987 325is
    Current: 1990 325i (Soon To Be 335i)

In e30`s? my double mass clutch does have springs and the double mass in this years didnt use springs, they are just bigass chunks of metal as far as I know, oh and either way my clutch does have springs so I guess it works on both occasions. Thanks for the reply.... im not getting much response I guess its not a common question. thanks spinning tires.

8lbs is way light for an M30. I have heard that drivability tends to suck when you go much lighter than the factory lightweight flywheel which is around 14.5lbs. Plus you will not see any power advantage by using a flywheel that light, and on a turbocharged engine I can't think of any benefits either. Stick with a 533i/M5/M6 flywheel and spend your money on parts that will do some good.

Thanks euroshark, the thing is that they are giving it free 2 me so wont be wasting any $$$. If I had the 14pounder id use it no questions asked but over here where I live there are probably 7 BMW with M30 in total old and new in the whole city (BMW dealership opened till 1989) im practically 1 out of 3 real serious BMW lovers in the city :( as in loving not buying (theres incredibly alot of them), so cant get a hold on parts and shipping to miami and then here is alot too, so what Im worried about is if ill break something or damage anything by using this part. dont care much about every day drivebility as long as it works perfect and revs like hell! :D Thanks alot !!

I am using a light weight flywheel and clutch on mine with no problems, it weighs around 18lbs with the clutch assembly. Idle is fine.

ok thats relaxing to know, still my configuration sould be lighter tho because the 533`s weight like 14lbs and still have the 240mm clutch attached to it. ottis, is your light weight stuff still from the m10? cause my FW is 8lbs and my clutch is the smaller 228mm so hope I dont go to lo under that, ill weight them tommorrow to let you know! THANKS!! :D

Hey, I went to the shop today and they offered me this one, it is aluminum, weights 10-11 lbs and is made for the bigger 240mm clutch. the only thing is I cant seem to find any brand name on it, only a G3 stamp. with all the clutch assembly it weights 23 lbs. do you guys by any chance recognize this flywheel? should I take this or the lighter m3´s jb but smaller clutch too? thanks lots..... one of theese babys is going in today!
